16 Indonesian People Join ISIS
Most of the 16 citizens who "disappeared" in Turkey and is alleged to have crossed into Syria is a member of a terrorist network in Indonesia.

Related to "terrorism Network", 16 Indonesian people assumed go to Syria. Some of 16 Indonesian who have "dissappeard" in Turkey and predicted have been across to Syria were members of terrorism network in Indonesia. 

Some of 16 Indonesia citizen who reported missing in Turkey and assumed joined with militant group Islam State or ISIS in Syria were members in Indonesia terrorism network, said former Indonesia security official.


"Some of men in this group obviously related with terrorism network that exist all this long," said former Head of National Counter-Terrorism agency, BNPT, Ansyaad Mbai to BBC Indonesia reporter, Heyder Affan, Sunday night (08/03). 

Official statement of Indonesia government state, ten people among 16 Indonesian comes from Surabaya, and the other six comes from Surakarta, Central Java. 

They consisting of three families and two others who were not part that family went to Turkey with a group tour on February 25 last, but they chose to separate themselves from the group.

The Indonesian government said they allegedly intended to cross into Syria through the Turkish border to join the ISIS. Before prohibited by the Indonesian authorities, a number of Indonesian citizens expressed support for the ideology and organization of ISIS.



Ansyad Mbai will not mention the identity is concerned, but he said the chances of them associated with the figure of Abu Jandal, a citizen of Indonesia from Surabaya, which has joined the ISIS in Syria.

Through a video uploaded on YouTube, Abu Jandal alias Salim Mubarok Attamimi, in December 2014 then, has issued threats of attacks on military institutions, police and NU.

"It was Abu Jandal and the kind of person LO (liaison officer) of his militant ISIS with us here, two were from the 'right of East Java," said Ansyad.

In addition, he said, "We all know that Solo is the base figures ideologues (terrorist network) is known so far."

Ansyad also asserted, recruiters and those who organize the departure of 16 Indonesians were "linked to terrorism in Indonesia." In Indonesia, efforts to support the declaration of ISIS never done openly, but then became "closed" after the Indonesian government banned the distribution.

"I am very sure it is related. This is not the first case (shipping citizen to join ISIS through the Turkish-Syrian border). In Turkey this is the third case (attempts to deliver citizen heading to Syria are revealed)," he said.

Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo on the sidelines of his visit to the province of Aceh, said he strongly suspect 16 citizen aims to cross the Turkish-Syrian border to join the ISIS.

Former Head Ansyad BNPT Mbai say, one-on-one attempts to "cut" citizen support efforts to ISIS is to revoke the status of Indonesian citizens concerned.

In mid-2014, BNPT has planned to revoke their citizenship status against anyone who leaving or joining ISIS in Syria, but this proposal does not continue.

Indonesia has officially rejected the ideology promoted militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, aka ISIS and prohibit the development of ideology in Indonesia.
