The Iranian government is reportedly drafting legislation to prohibit sterilization or family planning.

"The government promotes dangerous culture, a culture which would remove the rights of women. They see women as baby factories," said Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, Amnesty's deputy director for the Middle East and North Africa.

Until a few years ago Iran is trying to set the number of population by subsidizing contraceptives, but this policy was changed.

Amnesty warned the closure of access to contraceptives can increase the number of 'unwanted pregnancies' which in turn would force women to undergo unsafe abortion.
